Making sure that you can use Embroidery Magic Software

Using the dst embroidery machine file format

EM 2 and EM 1 save in the dst machine stitch format, which is an almost universal format that converts well to any format. The dst format can be used by most of the Magic Boxes, Amazing Boxes and other reader / writer boxes that transfer designs from your computer to a memory card or machine.

If you have a Magic Box or other reader / writer transfer box or software to transfer your designs to a card / machine to get the designs to your machine it can probably use the dst format and conversion is not needed.

If you have almost any Bernina software then you can use it to convert to ART or pes format and then use your method to transfer your designs to your machine.  Most of the time conversion is not necessary as noted above.

There are several free conversion programs available that can convert formats to almost any machine format, except shv and ART.

To make absolutely sure that you can use the dst format with your machine - you can download a free design from our web site and then transfer it to your machine and sew it out.  By doing this, you will know for sure if you can use the dst format,  And you will know how to do it.

You can download a free multi-formatted embroidery design on this page > free embroidery designs

Click on the image to start the download -
Tell you computer where to > Save the file - (note where you are saving it)
> Go to the zip file location and > un-zip the file -
You should now have a folder with several file formats - (the end of the file name tells you the format - dst, pes, hus and others.)

 > Open your software that you use to send designs to you card or machine.
> Now open the dst design file and send it to the card / machine -
You may need to select the format of the file that you are opening from a drop down menu.  Or you may need to import the design instead of opening it. (select .dst format)

If your software can not use the dst format to transfer the design file, then you need to convert to a format that your transfer software / machine can use - You can easily convert to a format that you can use with your software / machine -

Free conversion software is available to download if you need it.  - see below

Conversion of embroidery machine formats is very easy -

Open the software - Open the design - Save the designs - in the format that you need -

Most of the time the software that is used to transfer a design from a computer to a machine or card for use in a machine can use the dst format - that is the machine format that the EM software saves in.   If your embroidery software will not accept dst format files, then the design format can easily be converted to almost any format that you need with conversion software.  There is good free conversion software available for download at the link below -
